MEET THE NEWELL’S. THE FAMILY BEHIND THE NET.

With over 40 years in the commercial salmon industry, our family set off with a desire to provide sustainably sourced, wild Alaskan seafood to the lower 48. We believe in offering a superior quality product from the moment our fish comes aboard to the moment it hits your plate.  Together with our processor and ,fellow fleet members, we work tirelessly to ensure that we are providing the best wild caught sockeye salmon that our country has to offer. Fisherman’s Pride Wild Alaskan Seafood is elated to share our Bristol Bay pride, educate our community in ocean stewardship, and offer all of northern Colorado the best in fresh fish.

OUR PROCESS

Meet Captain Brad Newell of Fishing Vessel Willow. With over 40 years under his belt, he has passed his love of fishing, environmentalism, and ocean stewardship on to his children. Captain Brad’s passion for salmon sustainability grew after Bristol Bay was overfished and salmon numbers declined in the 90s. Since then, it has become Captain Brad’s life mission to protect the salmon species and the habitat that they live in. He has been successfully accomplishing this mission for over 20 years after starting his habitat restoration contracting company, Squalicum Mountain Ecological Services, in 1999—which is still thriving today.

Meet Captain Forest Newell of Fishing Vessel Supernova. Forest has been fishing the waters of Bristol Bay since the age of 12 and has never missed a season since. His love and passion for the industry is obvious as he is one of the most Successful Certified Captains in the bay. He takes his job seriously and proves himself each year by pulling in an impressive amount of Sockeye each season.

At Fisherman’s Pride, we believe in respecting our harvest as well as our customers. This is why all fleet members are required to use both padded mats under our nets (to eliminate bruising) as well as onboard refrigeration systems. As the nets are pulled in, each fish is personally handled, inspected, harvested, and immediately put into the onboard cooling unit. These extra steps taken within our fleet are what make Fisherman Pride’s wild-caught sockeye salmon truly unique and second to none. Not every commercial fishing fleet is required to follow such strict, harvesting guidelines, and therefore not every salmon fillet is produced equally. Once it arrives at our processing facility, our fish is immediately prepared, vacuum-packed, and flash frozen, which produces the highest quality fillets that the bay has to offer. Flash freezing not only seals in the freshness but also allows our fish to meet the health and safety standards required for our sockeye salmon to be enjoyed at high-end seafood restaurants and grocers around the world.

Meet John and Desirae (Newell) Wieser, the faces behind your Northern Colorado orders. Desirae grew up fishing and helping her dad harvest and continues to be a deckhand for Brad. John is a Colorado Native whose family has had a hand in agriculture and farming for generations. John and Desirae reside full-time in Northern Colorado with their two adorable girls. The Wiesers are familiar with the lack of reliable access to fresh, wild Alaskan fish in the lower 48. With Newell’s blessing, the Wiesers are bringing freshly caught salmon to Northern Colorado from their processor. Fisherman’s Pride will supply the area with the freshest fish from their seasonal harvest beginning in late July. Harvesting begins during the Salmon run in July and will be available to purchase starting in late October. The Wiesers are excited to share their harvest with their community in Colorado. Order the freshest wild-caught sockeye salmon here.
